Cubs
Cubs is held on a Thursday night from 6.45pm - 8.15pm. We currently have
26 boys in the pack who are divided into 6 sixes (teams). Each six battles
it out to be awarded the prestigious award of “Super Six”
at the end of each term. They can earn points for good behaviour, smart
dress at our inspections, winning or participating in team games and for
good turns.
Camps
We aim to go on 2 camps per year, one in the Spring/Summer term and one
just after the school summer holidays. This year we had a sleepover at
HQ and went to Dewerstone Cottage on Dartmoor and had a wonderful time.

22 boys attended and gained their Nights Away badge. We learnt how to
map read, peel potatoes for our tea, collect and chop fire wood, made
rafts and then raced them down the river, played Pooh sticks off Shaugh
bridge, had a mini Olympics, played Bingo and Beetle and had a super camp
fire where we all sang silly songs, took part in stunts and drank hot
chocolate around the roaring fire.

Excursions
We try to get out of the HQ at least once a term, this year we have attended
the Callington Space Centre and learnt all about the planets. We went
to the Maize Maze and got lost for a couple of hours and we went for a
day out at Woodlands Adventure Park.
Gang Show
In December our fund raising committee put on a prize draw evening and
we provide the entertainment for the evening, with a bit of help from
the Beavers and the Scouts.
We practice like mad for a few weeks, but it's good fun and we know that
the parents enjoy the daft things Akela gets us doing or singing about.
Badges
Each week at cubs Akela helps us to do projects which will count towards
our Challenge Awards.
They are:
- Fitness Challenge - We all had fun on a Climbing
Wall in the Summer towards this badge.
- Creative Challenge - We will be making the Christingle
Candles for our Christingle Service which will be held in December and
will also count towards our Caring Challenge - the money we collect
will be donated to the Children Society.
- Global Challenge - We learnt all about Diwali -
the Hindu Festival of light for this one.
- Outdoor Challenge - We went on a hike of the local
area and were able to find out lots of interesting facts which were later
used in our Local Knowledge badge.
We are able to work at home on our proficiency badges and the information
we need to achieve the badge is found either on the Internet at www.scoutbase.org.uk
or is in the book of badges which was given to us when we were invested.
There are 32 Activity badges for us to work towards:
We can also work towards Swimming, I.T., Nights Away and Musician staged
badges. |
